About the Venue
South Beach Sessions has been around now for the best part of three years and is settling into its new home for 2018 - The Reception Room at Troon Concert Hall.
Over the past three years we have hosted some memorable and magnificent gigs in both the South Beach Hotel and The Harbour Arts Centre but we've never been more excited about a venue than we are at this moment.
The Reception Room sits as a less used and arguably less loved public space within the Troon Concert Hall but before operating the first WinterStorm Rock Weekender we saw it as an integral part of the weekend's festivities and in 2016 we turned the shell into a pop up venue hosting a wide range of acoustic and full band acts. 2017 saw a repeat of this with full stage, larger PA and lighting and a full size bar and the place simply rocked. It was accepted as a great wee gig!
It has a strange retro feel to it with you feeling that you could be in a students' union from the eighties but it is the views across the beach and sea that makes it totally unique and if we're lucky we'll be able to offer some bright red sunsets with the encores this summer!
So here we are in 2018 with twelve weekends of live music planned throughout the year with perhaps more to come. A mix of top tribute bands, acoustic solo acts and some of the very best rock, blues, country and Americana acts you'll get in any city venue.
Seated the venue holds 120; standing up to 180 so it will always be intimate but we wanted to recreate the feeling of a real live venue where it is up close and personal and you feel the music as well as seeing,
The bar is provided in partnership with The Harbour Bar in Troon who provide the services for WinterStorm and we are looking forward to offering the best in craft beers, real ales and the odd Jager or too in conjunction with one of our other sponsors Jagermeister.
Sound, light and staging are provide by Colin and Morag Angus at Studio Five and you won't be disappointed with the production values that's for sure.
Doors and Licencing
At the moment the room is strictly over 18's as the position of the bar makes it difficult to keep under 18s away from it but we will work with the council on an event by event basis and it is still our intention to offer access to as wide an age group as we can.
We plan to open the doors for each gig at 6.30pm with last orders at 11.30pm but again this may change gig by gig with later licences when appropriate. With the early
We are always met with raised eyebrows when we promote the South Beach Sessions to locals and beyond. Can it be a real gig in a venue in Troon?
Well yes it can be a great gig and with the right acts and the right audiences we have had a ball over the past three years and the feedback we get from both the bands and music fans makes every lost pound worth it! The artistes will normally be staying over and meet and greet is always on the set list. Signed merchandise, photos and a wee chat are just part of the experience.
