South Beach Sessions are delighted to take a step into the unknown by putting on a play in the pop up venue by the sea! If successful we hope that we can attract a string of similar small scale productions and breathe some further life into a wider live arts and entertainments' renaissance in Troon attracting both local and tourism audiences.
The Price of A Fish Supper
By Catherine Czerkawska
Set somewhere on the Ayrshire coast, The Price Of A Fish Supper explores the demise of the fishing industry as seen through the reminiscences of the central character, Rab.
Like a modern day ‘ancient mariner’, Rab relates his riveting story of love, rivalry and disaster.
It is a story about the human suffering at the heart of this most hazardous of traditional occupations. This one-man play is at once tragic and funny, holding out, by the end, the faintest glimmer of hope for the future.
This is the first Ayrshire production of The Price of a Fish Supper which was first staged in Glasgow in a season of the Oran Mor’s A Play, A Pie And A Pint. It received glowing reviews, moved to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and was subsequently broadcast on BBC R4.
The play is directed by Isi Nimmo with Ken O'Hara as Rab and is set around the year 2000.
The play comes with a 16+ age advisory limit on it! There will be a Q&A session at the end of the play.
