Classic Clapton 2016
January 2016 saw the return to the South Beach Sessions of Mike Hall playing songs from the repertoire of Classic Clapton material as part of a postponed date on the 30th Anniversary tour and we were told quite possibly the final Scottish date for the act.
Quite rightly promoted as "The World's No1 Eric Clapton Tribute Band" featuring front man Mike Hall who not only looks like Eric - see the gallery from the evening - he sings and plays guitar like him too!
Classic Clapton comprised four excellent musicians who stunningly recreated Slowhand's electrifying stage performances. The whole of EC's illustrious career was covered including Cream, John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers, The Yardbirds, Blind Faith, Derek & The Dominos and the solo years.
In their 30 years on the road CLASSIC CLAPTON became something of a rock institution, touring throughout the UK including numerous sell-out shows and if this is indeed their final tour then they will be missed by many fans. We don't do many covers bands at the Sessions but when they are as good as this then they do add value to a programme of events.
We don't mention it often enough but the positive comments we get for every gig we put on would not be possible if it wasn't for the professionalism of the production behind the events. Once again Chris from Smalltown Audio did a superb job not only with the excellent sound but also in creatively lighting the stage for the event.
The show itself was a fitting finale to Mike's tourism gigs in Scotland and it was a two hour journey through the music of Clapton playing all of his hits - Wonderful Tonight, I Shot The Sheriff, Lay Down Sally, Crossroads, Tears in Heaven, Layla and even an unplugged segment too.
Great night once again at South Beach Sessions.
